Script breakdown and scene planning

From script to production preparation.

A breakdown makes the scenes, characters, locations and production needs in a text visible. Velvet keeps script and scene work in the same workspace.

How does a breakdown proceed?

Import the script, review the scene structure, check the character and location candidates. Then organise your scenes and shots to move preparation forward. The file format and the way the script is laid out affect the import.

What exists today?

Script versions, scene and shot management, and the groundwork for deriving candidate characters and locations from the text. Candidates come from the script itself and should not be treated as a complete list of what a shoot needs.

How are characters and locations found?

Candidate extraction is rule-based: it uses the structure of the script, such as dialogue and scene headings. The results need to be checked by the team. This is not an AI pass that interprets the full meaning of the text.

Are props and continuity scanned automatically?

No. This candidate flow does not list the props inside a scene. A flow that scans props, costume and continuity in depth and puts them in front of a person for approval is still in development.

Is a shooting schedule the same as booking?

No. Planning scenes and shooting days is not a rental system that prevents double-booking a studio or a piece of equipment. Rental and resource booking are treated as separate future work.
